Whoo Hoo!

Just got a phone call from Aaryk!

He got in to Ft. Knox at 0200 on Friday morning. They had a briefing and by the time they got to their barracks and got the lockers and stuff it was 0345. Reveille was at 0400! He's spending the first few days doing inprocessing stuff, getting issued his uniforms, basic drills, that kind of thing, and then will Start Warrior Training School. They had 'liberty' for most of the day today, so he went out and bought a watch and a phone card so he could give me a call. Oh, and a large Coke, which he said was the most wonderful thing!

It was so nice just to hear his voice!

He won't have an address that I can write to for another week or so, but I'll make sure to post it here when I get it.

Want to see a little of where he's at? Here's the Ft. Knox web site~http://www.knox.army.mil/

Thinking about Aaryk

As I have been reading more military blogs lately, I found this quote and thought that it's something that Aaryk would use for a sig line~

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the soldier, not the organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.

It is the soldier, who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protestor to burn the flag.

- Father Dennis Edward O'Brian, USMC

Found that on Citizen Smash today.

And away he goes!

Well, he's off on the first leg of our newest adventure. Brian and I got up with Aaryk at 0500 this morning to pray with him and tell him goodbye. I did it without crying too! The recruiter picked him up in front of the complex at 0520, and had him down to MEPS at 0600. From there he knew it would be a lot of 'hurry up and wait' so he brought his book and some last minute paperwork he needed to fill out.

Sometime today he left for Ft. Knox. Now the tough part starts. Waiting. Waiting to hear from him so that I can write to him. Waiting to hear how he's doing. I hate waiting.

But we'll muddle through as always, thanks especially to all our family and friends!

You guys are really the best!

Back to work...Whew!

The Move

Even though the computers were back up Friday evening, I really didn't have much of a chnace to write about what was going on. Saturday, with the help of a couple of friends, we got most everything else over to the new place. Sunday, after Church, we started cleaning, and brought over the last few loads of odds and ends. We were done cleaning in time to grab a bite to eat before Brian had to be at Church that evening. Thanks to everyone who stopped by to give us a hand! Now the unpacking starts!

Get Motivated!

On Tuesday, I attended the Get Motivated! all day seminar with my boss and several other managers from IKON. It was great, and I even learned a thing or two! I got to hear Zig Ziglar, Joe Montana, Jerry Lewis, Rudy Guilliani, and Gen. Tommy Franks. A fun but tiring day. I went back to work today exhausted! I need a vacation from my vacation!

8 Days and Counting...

Until Aaryk leaves. He's out running right now, the only part of the PT test with which he is having any difficulty. Old knees don't work as well as they used to.

Don't forget his going away party on Friday! Our new place (email me for the address please), at 7pm, until we're done. Bring a friend, a munchie, a game....whatever, just please stop by!

Live Blogging the Move!

Rain rain go away.... 11:24AM

Well, I picked up the keys this morning, and by 10:30 was doing the initial walk through on the new place. WOW!! I knew I loved our old apartment, but the new one is VERY cool too! Along the wall in the dining room area is a wall length mirrored closet (with Shelves), and since there are no stairs going up, there is an odd little nook in that corner by the window. Otherwise it looks very much the same as our current place, without the huge vaulted ceilings! It's going to be very nice for the next few months. LOTS of storage areas, which we will need as we are not unpacking about 1/2 of what is moving.

The only downside at the moment is that it is raining (I'm waiting for it to let up a bit and then I'll get back to work!), and that we have no phone. I don't know what happened, since we still have our cable modem (obviously!), and they are both with the same company.

So.....if you need to get a hold of us and the phone is still out, email me. I'll be checking the email frequently, and we'll move and set up the computers in the new place quickly.

Well, I'm dry again, I've had my lunch, it's 11:40, and it looks like the rain is letting up...Back to work!

Waiting for Aaryk 1:05 PM

It's now about 1pm and I decided to dry off for a bit. I've gotten about half of the kitchen taken over, one tub at a time, and put away. I hope to have the kitchen done before Brian gets home this afternoon. Still so many little things to take care of, sort, throw out, box up...

This is Aaryk's last day at IKON. Next week is all vacation time for him, and then he leaves the week after. They were having a 'surprise' farewell party for him at Online today, one of the worst kept surprises ever! ;) He's bringing a hand truck home so that we can move boxes more than one at a time. I'll probably go get the one from GateWay later this afternoon/evening if we need it. Ok, I'm officially rambling now.

Still no phone :(

Rain's letting up again. The nice thing about Phoenix this time of year is- if you don't like the weather, just wait five minutes, it'll change!

Day One, Whew! 7:55pm

We were without an internet connection for most of the afternoon, as it was in the new place and the computers still in the old place! But as of now we have a good chunk of it all moved over and are in good shape for tomorrow.

Off to a friend's party soon~

February update!

Welcome Family and friends!
I know some of you just got the link to my blog, feel free to post a comment or send me an email!

Superbowling and moving

Superbowling was fun, even if we couldn't hear the game (again!). We went over to B&J's to watch the halftime show and the second half of the game. Who'd have thought that I could get interested in FOOTBALL?! It was a good game, and lot's of fun was had by all. I hope to get some pics from bowling up soon, I'll post a link here.

We move next weekend into the smaller apartment, #1090 for those who want the actual address, but if you are mailing stuff, the PO box is still the place to send things.

We have friends coming over to help with the move, so that should go smoothly. We got rid of so much stuff this time. Aaryk got rid of all his GW miniatures. We took them down to Bookman's for trade credit, and got TONS of trade. Now I can replace the 12 large boxes of minatures with a box or two of DVDs! Bookmans, if you are not familiar with them, is a used book/movie/music/toy/games/collectable/stuff store. Here'a a link to their website- http://www.bookmans.com/ (didn't even know they HAD a website until I looked jsut now!). For my friend's coming over to help move, I have the stuff that Bookman's didn't want this time, and a bunch of other stuff that I didn't have time to take down there. It's first come/first get on any of this stuff, an added 'thank you' for helping us move, and mostly because I'd like my stuff to go to good homes!!

Aaryk's going away game night

On Friday the 18th, everyone (well, everyone we KNOW) is invited over to play games and wish Aaryk bon voyage. We'll start about 7, and go till we're done! We're keeping it simple, if you want to bring a munchie or beverage, please do, but mostly come by and play a game or just stop in to say goodbye.

After that, don't worry if you don't see much of us until after he leaves. We have some family things we want to do, and just spend some time together. This will be the last time Aaryk and Brian have together for who knows how long! (I'm getting misty-eyed just writing about it!)

More later, as events occur!
